Scan Your Space

No matter how big your house is, space is always limited and you'll want to make the best of what you have. Walk around your home and figure out which rooms will be open to the party. The kitchen, living room, and a bathroom are usually fair game to guests. Make sure these rooms are clean and organized. Think about how many people you'd like to invite and imagine them all in your home. If you are planning on invite 10 guests, figure out where everyone could comfortably sit together. You might need to rent chairs or bring chairs in from other rooms in your home. Is there an outdoor patio you also want to enterain on? If there is, remember to be respectful of your neighbors or better yet, invite them!

Secure Your Space

Most guest won't wander around your home by themselves, but if there are certain rooms that are off limits be sure to shut the door and lock them if you want them extra secure. If you have special, breakable, or extremely valuable items you might want to consider putting them behind closed doors as well. Clear off the countertops and tables in the rooms you're entertaining in so you can display food and drinks. Leave out coasters so people can place their drinks on them and won't damage your tables.

Decorate Your Space

You don't need to go full National Lampoon Christmas Vacation, but stringing a few lights outside can really start the party inside. As soon as guests pull up to your home they'll get in the festive mood. Spice up the inside of your home by hanging some mistletoe, adding wall decorations, and placing flowers on tables and counters. Music is always a good idea so turn up the fun holiday tunes and get ready for some dancing!
