Originally designed as a circular complex, the Fashion Island name is fitting. In 1967, The Irvine Company built the now famous Fashion Island and it still owns and operates it to this day. Initially, it was planned to be a closed shopping area, but the designer Alberto Trevino was instrumental in convincing people it should be an open area concept. Fashion Island started with 2 restaurants, 56 stores including 4 large department stores; J.W. Robinson’s, Buffums, The Broadway and Penneys.

Fashion Island encompasses 75 acres of land all dedicated to this luxurious shopping and dining area. Today the famous Fashion Island boasts over 120 stores and more than 40 different dining options that even the pickiest of eaters would approve of. There is also a movie theater that is set to under go a remodel to make it even bigger and better than it already is coming in 2018. If you ever feel the need to take a break while you are shopping, sit down and relax by the Koi Fish Pond with a coffee in hand. This peaceful pond was created in 1968 and all of the 80 Koi fish are from the Niigata Region of Japan. Try and count them all! A family outing to Fashion Island is a must. There are plenty of holiday events such as a meet and greet with Santa and an Easter egg hunt making it the perfect place to bring the entire family.
