Decorate The Front Door

The very first holiday decoration advice is to start on the outside of your home. If you don't want to go total Griswold Family Christmas lights, opt for a less flashy version and hang a string icicle lights. The front door is always the focal point of a home, so you can hang a gorgeous wreath, a red bow, or wrap garland around the door. If you have a porch you can make this holiday display even bigger and better!

Display Old Holiday Cards

What do you do with all of the holiday cards you've received from years past? Many of them sit in boxes and collect dust under your bed, so why not take them out this year? Not only is it fun to take a stroll down memory lane from Christmas' past, but you can use the cards as decorations throughout your home. Display them on tables, mantles or tape them to your fridge for some extra holiday cheer.

Make Your Own Advent Calendar

You can make an advent calendar tree and hang the dates as ornaments or create your own traditional advent calendar. Instead of the standard chocolate prizes, write cute things on each numbered day such as motivational quotes or inspire you and your family with small things to make the world a better place such as "Give a stanger a compliment" or "Donate $5 to your favorite charity".

Decorate with Garland and Ribbons

Get out the scissors and tape and have a little fun with this one. Wrap garland around door frames, create a beautiful table runner, and display it on the mantle. Bring the Christmas spirit to the upper levels on your hose and wrap garland and tie ribbons up the banister on your staircase.

Holiday Pillows

A few festive pillows will help transform a room into a holiday hideout. There's no need to buy the entire pillow, but just pick out a few different cases. When Christmas has come and gone, these pillow cases will be easy to fold up and store during the off season.

Make Homemade Candles

Get a little crafty o to your local craft store and get soy wax and wicks and and then use empty mason jars you find around your house to hold the candle. You can use holiday essential oils like pine, peppermint, cinnamon, orange and clove to naturally flavor your candles and have your home smelling just like Santa's workshop. You can also decorate the mason jar candle with cute burlap ribbons for an extra cozy feel. Homemade candles also make amazing gifts!

Window Decorations

Windows are a wonderful way to display the holiday cheer. Tie ribbons on ornaments and wreaths or create cut out snowflakes and hang them in the windows. You can also display cute Christmas figurines and snowglobes that catch the light just right.

Candy Center Pieces

Pick out your favorite holiday themed chocolates and candy like peppermints, gum drops, Hershey's kisses, and display them in vases. They'll look so adorable you'll want to display them on your table and all throughout your home. You can layer the candy according to color and dress them up with ribbons. What's better than a center piece that you can actually eat!
